Everyone gets curious about places they’ve never been. Like the first time I went to see the ocean — man, I had this whole picture in my head from The Little Mermaid. You know, that crystal-clear blue water, sunlight beaming through, mermaids popping up like it’s no big deal. So I show up to Zhoushan, China, and what do I get? Yellow, murky, muddy water. Not gonna lie — I was pretty let down.
But here’s the thing. After a while, I realized something kind of funny: the version of a place we build in our heads is almost always better than the real deal. And the stuff that really sticks with us? It’s not the actual place — it’s the image we’ve been carrying around in our minds.
Real beauty? You see it every day, it just fades. You get used to it. But the beauty you imagine? That one just keeps growing the more you let yourself sink into it.
So the most beautiful place in the world? It’s not out there somewhere. It’s literally right here — inside your own head.
